The Police in Akwa Ibom State have arrested a 37-year-old grandmother, Ekaette Obot, for stealing and selling her granddaughter for N200,000. The police say Obot claimed to have sold the child to free her 18-year-old daughter, Blessing Okon, from the burden of motherhood. Parading her before newsmen at the command's headquarters yesterday July 31sth, the state Commissioner of Police, Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi, said Obot, who is also pregnant, told the Police that as soon as she put to bed, she will sell the baby.  “This is the mother to this lady. As soon as her daughter gave birth she sold the child for N200, 000. She is pregnant and she is saying that as soon as she puts to bed, she is going to sell her own baby also.” the commissioner of police said  Obot told the police that with her job as a cleaner, she can not feed herself, her daughter, granddaughter and her own unborn child.

A man was caught on video punching a woman unconscious in a shocking assault as revellers gathered outside a nightclub. Footage shows the man and woman standing together outside the club, before the man hits the woman in the face with violent swings. The woman falls backwards and lands on the pavement as one horrified eyewitness screams "oh my God". The woman was taken to hospital for treatment. No-one has been arrested. Met Police have confirmed they are treating the incident which happened outside Faces nightclub in Gants Hill, east London, in the early hours of Saturday as grievous bodily harm. Two cousins who killed the head Pastor of the End Time Believers Bible Fellowship  have been sentenced to death by the Tamale High Court in Ghana. Ghana Web reports that the convicts, Kwame Dogyi and Obio Akwasi who are also students of the Tamale Technical University ( TaTU ), murdered 64-year-old Pastor Ebenezer Ocran at his residence at Kumboyili , near Tamale on the Tamale-Kumbungu road on November 9, 2017. They also stole his Toyota Highlander vehicle and gave to a sprayer at the Tamale Industrial area to sell at GH¢10,000. At the final hearing of the case at the Tamale High Court, the prosecution called nine witnesses but the convicts called no witness and at the end of the trial the jury returned a verdict of guilty of conspiracy to commit crime and murder. Mr. Justice Edward Apenkwah who presided over the case then sentenced the two to death by hanging on Monday, July 30, 2018.

                      

Gay rights activist, Bisi Alimi took to Instagram to advice Nigerian women to stop trying to make a marriage work with a gay man because there is nothing they can do to stop a man who loves men from loving men. Bisi made the statement while reacting to the story of a lady who has been married to a gay man for thirty years, and is still trapped in the marriage. Sharing a screenshot of the lady's story, he wrote: 'Stop press! Dear women, I have said t before and I will say it again, if the man you are with loves men, pack your bag and move on. There is nothing you can do to stop a man who loves men from loving men. Staying around will make you sad and make your life hell. This is a special message to Nigerian women, stop trying to make a marriage work with a gay man, no matter what he promised you, he will always go looking for the companionship of a man, and that’s the reality. It was the end of the road for a notorious thief after he was caught stealing a phone inside a Mosque in Abaji, Abuja . The suspect was nabbed around 5am on Monday, July 30, at Road Safety quarters. 

Justice Muhammed Idris of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Tuesday, July 31, 2018, dismissed a no-case submission filed by a former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, in his bid to stop his trial over an alleged N3.2bn fraud. Kalu alongside his former Commissioner for Finance and Account, Jones Udeogu, and a company, Slok Nigeria Limited, are being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on an amended 39-count charge bordering on money laundering to the tune of N3.2bn. The EFCC, through its counsel, Rotimi Jacobs, SAN, had, on Friday, May 11, 2018, closed its case against the defendants, after the conclusion of evidence given by a prosecution witness, Chidi Chukwuka , Deputy Director, Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, NDIC. During the May 11, 2018 proceedings, the prosecution counsel had also moved an oral application to amend the charge against the defendants in view of the eviden...

As though being abandoned by his birth mother were not bad enough, a young boy has had to suffer child abuse and horrible injuries inflicted on him by his grandmother in Lagos. The boy's plight was brought to light after a good Samaritan saw him with scars all over his back from being flogged numerous times. The good Samaritan, Didi Moon, revealed that the boy also gets starved by his grandmother in addition to the beatings. Didi took photos of the boy's injuries and shared online while calling for the appropriate authorities to act and get the boy the help he needs.

Three sisters have confessed to stabbing their abusive father to death after "years of torture" and they are now facing 15 years in jail. The teenagers Kristina, 19, Angelina, 18 and Maria, 17, are accused of murdering their heroin-addict father Mikhail Khachaturyan. He was found with dozens of stab wounds near a lift inside the family's block of flats in Moscow, Russia. Reports citing police say the sisters all confessed to jointly killing their 57-year-old father, claiming they suffered years of appalling sexual, physical and emotional abuse. Kristina told police: We hated him and we wanted just one thing to happen – either that he disappeared or that we never knew him. We wanted him just to go away and never come back. Actress Iyabo Ojo's children reunited with their father after six years of being away from him and they took to their respective Instagram accounts to share their excitement. Priscilla Ajoke Ojo shared a photo she took with her father and brother and captioned it, "Hi guys meet my dad, we haven’t seen for about 6 years, I’m glad we got to hangout and reunite ???? #family" Festus Oladunjoye Ojo also took photos with his father and sister during the reunion and shared it with the caption, "That is my dad for all those who have wondered what he looks like. A Nigerian mother is crying out after her father-in-law raped all three of her daughters she left in his care. The devastated mother said she decided to leave her daughters, aged 5, 7, and 9, with their grandfather since holiday lessons haven't started yet. But she came home from work to see them all crying. When she asked what was wrong, they told her "grandpa was climbing them one by one". The children were taken to the hospital where doctors revealed that her eldest daughter may never be able to have kids because her reproductive organs have been damaged. It was also revealed that the grandfather was almost killed by his son - the children's father - when he found out what he had done. The randy old man has now been locked up in jail. A screenshot of the mother's SOS message was shared by activist Esther Ijiwere, who is now warning mothers not to trust anyone at all with their kids.

Five people were burnt to death today after a small passenger aircraft crashed in southern Democratic Republic of Congo near the border with Angola. The piston-engined Antonov 2, operated by local airline Air Kasai, burst into flames, just after takeoff from Kamako for a flight to Tshikapa, 150 kilometres (93 miles) away. “The plane crashed into the bush three kilometres (two miles) from Kamako. Only two people got out, the pilot and a passenger. They are unable to talk. We already know that five people have died. We will know the final toll when the company provides us with the passenger list” said Anacletus Muswa Kapinga Safia, the deputy territorial administrator. The crash is the second in a month in DR Congo’s sprawling Kasai province. Last month, a light plane chartered by the World Food Programme (WFP) had an accident on takeoff at Kamonia, leaving several people injured.
